The Missing Piece

Let’s start with one single truism. Everybody is unhappy.

Observe. Those around you. Those just beyond your reach. Those far in the distance. Everybody wants something they can’t have. That forbidden fruit that keeps them up at night for just that second longer.

Yet they smile. Play happy families. Hugs, kisses and laughter. Looks genuine enough but that is just one facet of the individual. But we should all act as though Life threw us a big fat juicy bone to gnaw on for the rest of our waking moments. In fact I would highly recommend it. The better the actor, the bigger the audience. It’s like honey to the bees. The only caveat is this, you have to accept that one single truth. If not, you’re just an ant that follows the ant in front of him with the hopes that he or the ants in front knows where they are going. In a single straight line. But ignorance is bliss as well, I suppose.

So how does one get through the remnants of this Life knowing this? It’s addiction. The numbing of your five senses. Alcohol, sex and drugs are the obvious culprit but there are less ...shall we call it... less Hollywood addictions... that fanatical running, the need to be surrounded by people, the reading of the book, the involvement in politics and even the overzealousness of religion... are all addictions to keep the monster within.

Perhaps it would be easier if we all held hands and sang Kumbaya till the dawn breaks each morning but what would that make us? Simple. And I bet as you grip the hands of that person next to you... you can’t help the thoughts of choking the life out of him creeping into your diseased mind. Not that you’d do it... cause that’d be wrong according to the Rules. But all these thoughts you will never act upon, are products of your sixth sense that knows that something is amiss.

So we go around. Searching for that something to fill our void. But if you accept this then you should accept that it is a black hole and everything just .... disappears.

The only one thing you should really look for.... my enlightened ones..... is that sustainable addiction. Something that does not corrupt the vessel after long periods of usage. Well not too much anyway. But that’s the thing about addictions. It just fucks with your mind. Makes you believe the lies you concoct to make you get up each morning.

Yet you know what makes it just a little tiny bit better?

The knowledge that it’s just not you. It’s everyone else too.

See you in rehab.
