It was a Monday evening full of promise of grumpiness and weariness. It did not disappoint. As the modern day Grinch drove her car at full speed around the bend she could make out the shape of her house that quickly came into view. Hark! The Grinch with her excellent vision spotted an outline of a car that looked remarkably like her own. Could it be the evil doppelganger trying to terrorize her? Could it just be an apparition that once challenge would blend into the night? Alas, it was worse. It was THE FAMILY.
The Grinch gave a loud sigh and turned the bop bee doop music of her car radio off and wondered how is it possible to avoid everything else BUT …. THE FAMILY. Blood weakens the spells and hexes which are part of the Grinch’s arsenal. There was no other for it but to valiantly trudge in and face the music. Her weary bones resisted for one more minute and she hauled her heavy self from the car.
With great trepidation the Grinch pushed the door to her cave and expected the worst but steeled her resolve with the mantra, “ a quick hi and a bye, a quick hi and a bye…”. Then there was a blur as what can only be described as a cross between a colourful clown and a midget which came hurtling towards her.
“Auntie!” shouted this ball of energy. And before the Grinch knew it she was handed a piece of toy which looked like a steam engine with a face on it. She made a mental note that she really must write to the inventor of such incorrect representation of early forms of transportation and complain.
Before she knew it the Grinch was pushing this Thomas engine around and playing around with the little creature. And as the little devil found his way under her arm and proceeded to snuggle up against her she suddenly felt an affection normally reserved for her cat but magnified at least 15.3 times more.
“How strange”, thought the Grinch. And to the Grinch’s alarm she could suddenly hear the beat of her own heart, loud and strong. A strange warmth came over her and despite herself she felt the curve of a smile beginning to form on her face. She knew that’s going to hurt tomorrow but for tonight, the Grinch might just allow herself to feel happy.
THE END
