Wallpaper

Imagine this. One morning you wake up your worst nightmare has come true. You have been told repeatedly that it is nothing to do with you and that fate just had other plans. Is it meant to give you comfort or suffering to learn that you have no say in this. You were just there for the ride.
Now, imagine a room nicely decorated with wallpaper of little flowers and tiny leaves. A garden of tranquility. But as the passage of time trudges along you who have lived in that room day in and night have ceased to notice that the wallpaper which was once new and in trend now looks dated and old to anyone else entering the room. Then someone tells you. And for the first time you look around you and try to see what they are talking about. But your eyes have been accustomed to it.
Yet you have no choice in the matter. Pride forces you to change them. So there you are ripping these wallpapers out. And they are stubborn. They don’t come off as cleanly as you would like. Scraps of paper on the wall. And you scrape and scrape until your hands are raw. But there are still traces everywhere.
Now the room looks bare and horrid with hanging paper everywhere. You stare and wonder…why didn’t you just leave it as it was and just move out?
