Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future.
John F.Kennedy
Every generation begins with the best intention to overcome the prejudices of their predecessors. Yet as the world keeps turning and the songs are different melodies of the same repetitious lyrics, it becomes apparent that the process is a cycle. For everything that we learn to overcome, we unlearn values which the next generation will hold us accountable for.
It is easy to be trapped in the web of the past as the certainty in its outcome brings memories of emotions that both thrills and chips away at us. Yet there is a danger in allowing our lives to be defined by past accomplishments and mistakes as it will never propel us to achieve a greater tomorrow. There is honour in trying even though it is not as celebrated as triumph.
We live in the age of self- praise and self-gratification yet it is not tempered by modesty or caution. Doubt is neither evil nor good but a necessity ingredient in this cauldron of life. This generation does not recognise the limitation and in its eagerness to outdo each other we perhaps forget to extend that helping hand.
I struggle in trying the path in life, wanting to succeed but praying that it does not come at a too heavy price. In my solitude thoughts, the calmness from insecurities can only be achieved if you can stand to look at that reflection in the mirror without flinching.
